Beautiful, sustainable limited edition English cashmere scarves
Babs Behan natural dyeing technique - English Cashmere photoshoot at the Forge Bristol

We welcomed Babs Behan of Botanical Inks to The Forge on a crisp day and took great pleasure in capturing her limited edition indigo and madder English Cashmere Blanket Scarves. Today we share the thoughtful process behind the making of this beautiful garment.

Limited Edition Indigo + Madder English Cashmere Blanket Scarves

Babs had the vision to create bespoke, sustainable and natural items to be cherished. Oh so natural, entirely cruelty-free and with sustainability at their very core, the limited edition (a run of 30!) scarves are a true celebration of heritage, tradition and nature. It goes without saying they are jaw-droppingly beautiful as well.

To produce the only English cashmere scarves Botanical Inks partnered with the A* list of South West sustainability.

The Creative Process

Bowmont UK, a specialist Mongolian-grade cashmere farm in Devon, gently hand comb malting fleece from their well-loved goats before The Natural Fibre Company organically spin the cashmere. Botanical Inks, armed with organic indigo leaf and madder leaf, create the blue and dusty pink hues. Using a ‘space-dyed’ technique to create a two-toned, ombre effect to the woven cloth. The dyed yarn is then woven by Bristol Weaving Mill into the final piece.

The scarves are designed to be 100% biodegradable and are to be given back to the soil at the end of their lifecycle. The cashmere scarves are the very antithesis of the fast fashion that troubles society or as Botanical Ink says; ‘here for a lifetime, not an eternity’.
