Modern Basketry Workshop with Tabara N'diaye

  • The Forge Colston Yard Bristol, England United Kingdom (map)

Join us for an exclusive basket-weaving workshop with Tabara N’Diaye of La Basketry and explore the timeless art of stake and strand - an age-old technique passed down through generations.

In this hands-on session, you’ll weave your own basket bag using bundles of centre cane. You’ll begin by weaving the flat base (or ‘slath’), then attach vertical ‘stakes’ to shape the sides before securing the handle. Throughout the process, you'll work with cane, softening it by soaking it in water, then bending and shaping it as you weave.

Tabara N’Diaye is a creative designer, author, and the founder of La Basketry, a vibrant lifestyle brand that originated from her passion for handwoven homeware and accessories crafted in collaboration with female artisans in her native Senegal.

Driven by a mission to redefine basket-making as ‘fun and accessible’, Tabara has fostered a community of basket enthusiasts through innovative projects, engaging workshops, DIY kits, and her acclaimed debut book Baskets, translated into five languages alongside English since its publication in 2019. Her second book “Woven” will be published in September 2024 by Quadrille/Penguin.
